Known as the Vintage Era, size and extravagance was introduced with cars like Duesenberg, Cord, Cadillac, and Auburn. Massive V-12 and V-16 engines, hand stitched leather interiors and chassis the size of small boats all became popular features. 1923 saw the opening of the Lincoln Highway, the first fully-paved road to span the entire United States. In 1925, a 350 HP Sunbeam-powered V-12 race car set a land speed record of 150 MPH. By the end of the decade, one in seven Americans owned a car.
